Tree Description

The Bald Cypress is a beautiful native tree known for its soft feathery foliage, strong structure, and exceptional adaptability. Unlike most conifers, this tree is deciduous, meaning it sheds its needles in fall after turning a beautiful copper-orange color.

During the growing season, the tree develops fine-textured bright green foliage that gives it a soft, elegant appearance in the landscape. Bald Cypress is famous for its ability to tolerate wet soils and flooding, but it also grows very well in typical landscape soils, making it one of the most adaptable shade trees available.

These 15-gallon trees establish quickly and grow into a tall, long-lived shade tree, making them an excellent choice for yards, parks, and large landscape plantings.

Sun Requirements

• Full sun (6–8+ hours daily)
• Best growth and canopy development occur in full sunlight

• Typically 10–15 gallons once or twice per week depending on rainfall and weather
• Tolerates wet soils, flooding, and periodic drought once established

• Performs well in both wet and well-drained soils
• Apply a balanced tree fertilizer in early spring if desired
• Maintain 2–3 inches of mulch around the base to conserve moisture and protect roots
