Chinese Chestnut — 5 Gallon
(Castanea mollissima)

Tree Description
The Chinese Chestnut is a hardy nut-producing tree valued for its sweet edible nuts, strong disease resistance, and adaptability. In fall, the tree produces spiny burrs that open to reveal rich brown chestnuts with a sweet, mild flavor that are excellent roasted, baked, or used in cooking.
Chinese chestnuts are widely planted because they offer strong resistance to chestnut blight, which devastated American chestnut populations in the past. The trees develop a broad, spreading canopy and make excellent shade trees as well as productive nut trees.
These 5-gallon trees establish quickly and grow into productive nut trees, typically beginning to produce chestnuts within 3–5 years under good growing conditions.
