Tree Description

The Autumn Blaze® Maple is one of the most widely planted shade trees in North America thanks to its rapid growth, strong form, and brilliant fall color. This hybrid maple combines the fast growth of silver maple with the strong branching and vibrant color of red maple.

In autumn, the tree develops striking crimson-red foliage, often earlier and brighter than many other maples in the landscape. Its upright oval canopy creates a balanced shade tree that works well in yards, along driveways, or as a focal tree in larger landscapes.

These 15-gallon trees establish quickly and grow rapidly, making them a great choice for homeowners wanting to create shade and visual impact in just a few seasons.

Sun Requirements

• Full sun is ideal (6+ hours daily)
• Best canopy development and fall color occur in full sunlight

Water Requirements

• Water deeply during the first year while roots establish
• Typically 10–15 gallons once or twice per week depending on rainfall and weather
• Once established, trees are fairly drought tolerant

Soil & Nutrition

• Highly adaptable to many soil types including the clay soils common in central Missouri
• Prefers well-drained soil but tolerates occasional wet conditions
• Apply a slow-release fertilizer in early spring if desired
• Maintain 2–3 inches of mulch around the base to conserve moisture and protect roots

Mature Size

• Height: 45–55 ft
• Spread: 35–45 ft
• Growth rate: Fast
