Tree Description

The Ayers Pear is a highly regarded southern pear variety known for its exceptionally sweet flavor, smooth texture, and reliable production. The fruit is medium-sized with golden yellow skin often blushed with red, and the flesh is buttery, juicy, and excellent for fresh eating.

This semi-dwarf pear tree grows to a manageable size while still producing heavy crops of high-quality fruit. It performs well in central Missouri climates, tolerating summer heat while producing consistent harvests in late summer.

Semi-dwarf trees are a great choice for home orchards, offering easier harvesting, pruning, and maintenance compared to full-size trees. Under good growing conditions, this tree can typically begin producing fruit within about 2–4 years after planting.

Sun Requirements

• Full sun (6–8+ hours daily)
• Maximum sunlight helps improve fruit production and sweetness

• Typically 10–15 gallons once or twice per week depending on rainfall and weather
• Once established, trees are moderately drought tolerant

Soil & Nutrition

• Prefers well-drained soil

• Apply a balanced fruit tree fertilizer in early spring
• Mulch helps conserve moisture and support root health
